Phase field and enhanced finite element formulations for fracture mechanics Marco Paggi (IMT Institute for Advanced Studies Lucca, Italy)
The Phase Field theory and other enhanced finite element formulations such as the Extended Finite Element and Meshfree Methods appear to be very promising computational methods for the simulation of fracture. The quantitative capabilities of these methods as compared to classic finite element formulations for linear elastic or nonlinear fracture mechanics are under scrutiny by the scientific community in order to increase their use and confidence when applied to real problems.
